This is still in development, but there are a few truths that I want to lay on the table right away.
I don’t work with anyone who…
- has previously been diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa. When this life-threatening condition swings into Binge Eating Disorder, treatment falls outside my competency.
- is looking for a quick fix. It took you decades to get where you are, and food is one of the most fundamental habits that an animal can have. This is hard work and it takes more than a weekend workshop to get recovery.
The people most likely to succeed likely have…
- been trying to quit junk food for a long time and have a good sense of what their problem foods are (at least when they’re being honest with themselves) and what kinds of foods they’d prefer to eat instead.
- medical complications due to their diet, including diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, and obesity-related joint pain.
- some experience with meditation or mindfulness. You don’t have to be able to sit in zazen for 3 hours or anything ridiculous like that. But if you can slow down and follow your breathing for 5 minutes, you’re off to a good start.
- done at least a couple other recovery programs, especially twelve steps (even if just setting foot in the door one time), and found that it wasn’t a good fit.
- I find these folks have a good sense of what works for them and what doesn’t, and are familiar with at least some of their patterns already. What they have trouble with is putting it all together into a cohesive picture, and that’s where I can help.
I love working with people who…
- want to become Whole Food Plant-Based.
- love learning and constantly growing their skills and capacity.
- get excited about travelling and having new experiences
